Staying Strong, Sharp & Engaged: Fitness Classes at Cordia

November 14, 2025 By Joan

At Cordia Senior Residence in Westmont, wellness is more than a class on the calendar, it’s a cornerstone of how we live. Physical strength is one of our Five Pillars of Wellness alongside Intellectual Activity, Cultural Enrichment, Emotional Balance, and Spiritual Connection. Together these pillars guide a balanced approach to living fully, with programs designed to help residents thrive in body, mind and spirit.

Our fitness offerings reflect this philosophy. From gentle chair-based classes to high-energy sessions integrating strength, balance and coordination, there are several opportunities for Cordia’s residents to find a level of challenge that matches their needs and wellness goals.

A Variety of Ways to Move

Here are some of the highlights of our fitness offerings at Cordia: An instructor and resident work side by side in a strength training class at Cordia Senior Residence in Westmont

  • Yoga with Michelle promotes flexibility, strength and relaxation, with both seated and standing options to meet every ability level. Chair Pilates complements this by focusing on posture, core strength and gentle stretching in a comfortable seated position.
  • Strength Training with Mike integrates martial arts techniques, combining cardiovascular exercise with muscular strength, balance, mental focus and endurance. Similarly, our Balance, Nutrition, and the 3Cs class blends standing and floor exercises, core and cardio training and healthy meal planning to support holistic wellness.
  • For those who want a social and motivating environment there’s our Walking Club or our Movement & Music class, which brings cardiovascular, muscular and cognitive challenges together all with the joy and rhythm of music.

Intermediate and advanced classes offer further opportunities for growth, ensuring residents can progress safely while staying engaged.

Wellness Beyond the Workout

At Cordia, fitness is part of a bigger picture. Our programs are designed to enhance mental acuity, strengthen emotional resilience and foster social connections which are all key benefits of staying active as we age. Combined with the nutritious chef-prepared meals that Cordia offers and the support of our wellness team, Cordia’s residents experience a lifestyle that nourishes body, mind, and spirit.
